VIA Rail Canada Inc. workplace leaders recently voted unanimously in support of recommending the tentative agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).
The 50 elected workplace representatives reviewed the agreement and recommended it for approval at ratification meetings that will begin throughout Canada on July 5.
CAW and VIA Rail reached the new tentative agreement late Saturday, averting a possible strike. CAW represents about 2,200 VIA Rail employees who work onboard and in stations, including telephone sales offices, maintenance centers and administrative offices.
