VIA Rail Canada recently opened two renovated train stations, marking the completion of a $225,000 facilities modernization project started in October to meet growing use and preserve buildings’ historical character.
Renovations and upgrades to the Kitchener-Waterloo station, which opened May 10, include new ticket counters, an expanded and renovated waiting area, improved access for people with disabilities, and improvements to the parking lot and platform.
Work at Brantford station, which opened May 15, included exterior and structural repairs, interior and exterior lighting, more-accessible washrooms and ticket counters, and an improved waiting area.
The renovation projects are part of VIA’s Renaissance program and a $259 million federal investment in passenger rail.
