Valley Metro has scheduled a public hearing on March 2 to review results of the Phoenix West High-Capacity Transit Study, which evaluated transit service options between central Phoenix and the West Valley area.

Valley Metro officials plan to review study findings that include a recommendation for light rail transit between downtown Phoenix, the state capitol area and Interstate 10 West to 79th Avenue.

The Phoenix West study was initiated in 2007 to evaluate a range of transit modes and east-west alignments that would connect the light-rail starter line to the West Valley.

"The transit project being recommended is the highest-performing alternative from this evaluation and would help improve regional mobility, support local neighborhoods and stimulate economic development," Valley Metro officials said in a prepared statement.
