Valley Metro and the city of Phoenix are seeking community input on a modified route for the Capitol Light Rail Extension.

The agency plans to extend light rail west from downtown Phoenix to the Arizona State Capitol area. The 0.75-mile extension would connect with the existing Valley Metro Rail system.

The modified route would connect to the current light-rail line at Third Avenue and Washington Street and head west on Washington Street, turning south on 15th Avenue before returning east on Jefferson Street, then again connecting to the existing light-rail system. The 15th Avenue Loop route continues to serve a strong ridership base and create an important connection to West Phoenix, Valley Metro officials say.

The agency also is soliciting public feedback on the Capitol District Transit-Oriented Communities that will develop land use and equitable housing policy plans in the area around the extension.

Valley Metro plans to hold two public meetings on May 18 and 20, and two workshops on May 21 on the matters. Presentation materials also are also posted on the project website along with a comment form that can be submitted through June 7.
