Valley Metro taps Stacy and Witbeck to lead station construction

Valley Metro Rail's board has named Stacy and Witbeck Inc. construction manager at-risk (CMAR) for the agency's new 50th Street light-rail station in Phoenix.

The $23 million project is the first capital element to be implemented under the Transportation 2050 initiative, which voters approved in August 2015, Valley Metro officials said in a press release.

Stacy and Witbeck and project partner Sundt previously constructed a 10-mile segment of the original 20 miles of light-rail that opened in 2008, along with the 3.1-mile Northwest Phoenix Extension that opened earlier this year.

Gannett Fleming Inc. is working on station design along with landscape architecture and urban design firm Dig Studio.

Groundbreaking is anticipated in early 2017. The station is slated to open for service in 2018.

The station will serve the community and future development near 50th and Washington streets.
