Vancouver's Canada Line opens for business
advertisement
Yesterday, trains began to run along the Canada Line between Vancouver’s downtown waterfront and airport, and Richmond, British Columbia — three-and-one-half months earlier than originally scheduled.
When proposed four years ago, the 11-mile, 16-station automated rail rapid transit line was expected to open at November’s end. The electrified line will serve visitors during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The governments of Canada and British Columbia, city of Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority (TransLink) and Vancouver Airport Authority funded the more than $1.8 billion project. InTransitBC designed, built and partially financed the Canada Line. The company also will operate and maintain the line as TransLink subsidiary Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc.
