The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has released its draft fiscal-year 2025 to 2030 improvement program, which allocates nearly $6.2 billion for public transportation and freight and passenger rail over the next six fiscal years.

For FY2025, the program allocates $392 million to local and regional public transportation providers, $426 million to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) for its metro rail and metrobus services, and $16 million to Virginia Railway  Express for its operating and capital budget. In addition, $18 million is budgeted for DRPT’s freight-rail programs and $182 million for the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority to expand and sustain passenger rail in Virginia.

The DRPT will conduct a public hearing May 16 to discuss the program. In addition, the Commonwealth Transportation Board will host nine public meetings across Virginia to gather feedback from community members.

The program is available on DRPT's Data Portal.
