Fred Goodine, assistant general manager for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s System Safety and Risk Protection Department, recently received International Safety Certification and the title "Certified Safety and Security Director" from World Safety Organization (WSO).
WSO, a non-profit organization founded in 1975 to promote safety worldwide, comprises safety professionals from United Nations-member countries, and serves as consultant to the United Nations on safety and security matters.
Goodine joined WMATA in 1997 as chief safety officer, following more than 20 years’ experience in multi-modal transit operators and safety programs at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
Goodine is the first U.S. transit professional to receive the honor, said WMATA officials in a prepared statement.
