The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties are advancing transit-oriented development projects (TOD) near Metrorail stations in Maryland.

WMATA’s board recently authorized staff to execute a memorandum of understanding with MDOT to seek a private team to plan and construct a TOD on 16 acres of state-owned land and 25 acres of WMATA-owned property adjacent to the New Carrollton station.

Plans for the New Carrollton project call for more than 6.1 million square feet of new commercial office and retail space, and 5,500 residential units.

The board also approved the selection of B.F. Saul Co. to plan and develop land at the Wheaton station.
