The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) earlier this week began adding more service at some Red and Yellow Line stations.

Red Line trains will now run end to end between the Glenmont and Shady Grove stations in Maryland instead of some trains turning back at Silver Spring Station.

The change complements the extended service to Shady Grove Station that began in December when the agency eliminated the “Grosvenor Turnback,” where every other Red Line train began and ended at Grosvenor-Strathmore Station, WMATA officials said in a press release.

On the Yellow Line, extended service to Greenbelt is in effect, doubling rush-hour service at the nine stations north of Mt Vernon Square Station to reduce crowding conditions.

Previously, Yellow Line trains turned back at Mt Vernon Square during rush hours and at Fort Totten Station at all other times.

WMATA will also honor the “Rush Hour Promise” to provide riders with a credit toward future travel for unscheduled delays of 10 minutes or more, agency officials said.
