Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority soon will be paying some of its newest "officers" in kibbles. Metro Transit Police Department has begun training six new bomb-detection K-9s to accurately detect explosives and respond to their human handlers, according to a statement released Aug. 16.
The training, which will run for eight weeks, began the week of Aug. 12 with dogs and their handlers familiarizing themselves with each other’s personalities.
In addition to WMATA’s six K-9 dogs and their handlers, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit also is participating in the training, which is taking place at MTPD’s K-9 Training Facility at the Fort Totten Metrorail station.
