WMATA completes inspections, repairs on Series 4000 cars

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently finished inspecting and repairing the door motors on its Series 4000 rail cars 18 days after the cars were removed from service as a safety precaution.

The fleet of 100 cars temporarily was removed from service on July 2 after a concern about a possible short in the circuitry that could have caused the doors to open while the cars were in motion.

During the past three weeks, teams were assigned to work on each rail car, including removing and inspecting the door motors at several yards, then shipping them to the Greenbelt yard where the motors had their circuitry repaired and cleaned.
