WMATA considers credit-card payment option
advertisement
Passengers might be able to use bank cards to ride Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) trains.
At a board meeting to be held today, WMATA officials will seek approval to solicit business proposals to implement other forms of contactless fare payment technology. Instead of using a SmarTrip card, paper farecard or cash, passengers could wave their credit card across a card reader and pass through fare gates.
If the board gives them the go-ahead, the agency will seek proposals soon.
