WMATA heightens security
advertisement
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority recently enhanced its own security level after federal authorities raised the Homeland Security alert from "elevated" to "high."
WMATA is increasing the number of transit police officers throughout its system, as well as facility and station checks, surveillance, and system announcements advising passengers to be alert.
The authority also is ensuring personnel wear vests designed to make them more visible and encouraging passengers to report any perceived threat to the nearest WMATA employee.
