The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) this week commemorated surpassing the 1 million-rider mark at the Washington Dulles International Airport Silver Line's Metrorail Station.
During a celebration event at the station — which opened in November 2022 — WMATA and MWAA designated one traveler as the ceremonial one-millionth rider. That customer, Ivy Cheng, received Silver Line memorabilia and gifts provided by WMATA, Dulles and United Airlines.
"What an exciting time for Metro and the Airports Authority to see the success of the Silver Line come to life," said WMATA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke in a press release.
Total ridership passing through WMATA's six new Silver Line stations now totals more than 3 million, with the Dulles Airport Station accounting for about one-third of the total.
On any given weekday, nearly 5,000 riders pass through the Dulles station. During weekends, the station averages more than 4,000 passengers.
