Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority recently named Edward Thomas assistant general manager for the newly formed department of planning and strategic programs, which will be responsible to guide WMATA’s first strategic plan through adoption, implementation and review. The plan is expected to be ready in October, according to a statement prepared July 23.
The department also is charged with leading system-wide planning; alternative route and transit mode analyses, environmental impact of transit investment in existing and future corridor assessment; and information technology planning and implementation support.
Thomas joined WMATA in late June. Prior to that, he served Federal Transit Administration for 26 years as associate administrator for research, demonstration and innovation, and director of the office for planning, innovation and analysis.
