Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) board last week selected the joint venture firm that will redevelop the agency's headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.

WMATA selected the Stonebridge and Rockefeller Group joint venture to add three floors to the  Jackson Graham building and redesign it into a mixed-use commercial development.

The deal is expected to close in early 2023 after WMATA relocates to its new headquarters near L'Enfant Plaza, WMATA officials said in a press release.

The redevelopment will generate long-term revenue for WMATA through annual payments over the term of the 99-year ground lease agreement.

Also last week, the board unveiled an updated master plan calling for a town center that would include a future WMATA office building in New Carrollton, Maryland.

That plan would add two buildings in front of the New Carrollton Station that serves WMATA, Amtrak, Maryland Area Regional Commuter and the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line.

Construction of WMATA’s office building is expected to begin fall, with completion by early 2023.
