WMATA prepares to launch SmartBenefits

advertisement

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s SmartBenefits program has entered its final testing phase in preparation for a Sept. 14 launch.

SmartBenefits simplifies administration of Washington’s Metrochek transit benefit program, by which participating Washington-area employers provide up to $65 per month for employees who commute by public transportation.

Employees with transit benefit may use Metrochek vouchers as cash to purchase passes or farecards, including SmarTrip rechargeable farecards.

With SmartBenefits, the employer could load the benefit directly onto participating employees’ cards through the Internet. The employee then would download the benefit into his or her SmarTrip card by selecting that option on the Passes/Farecard vending machine.
