The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has completed installation on half of the 130 station escalators that have been marked for replacement.

Today, three new escalators will be operating at the Farragut North Entrance on L Street NW, and at Grosvenor. The project to replace the oldest, least reliable escalators on the Washington, D.C., Metrorail system began in 2021 and is expected to continue through 2028.

Also, construction begins today on three more entrance escalators at Farragut North, as work shifts to the K Street NW entrance. To complete the work at the K Street entrance, the entrance will be closed through spring 2024, WMATA officials said in a press release.
