The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently notified the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that it will receive $1.76 million to cover snow removal costs stemming from heavy snowstorms in February.
FEMA previously had provided WMATA $1 million for snow removal expenses associated with a December 2009 storm.
The multiple snowstorms cost WMATA a total of $12.7 million for snow removal efforts and millions more in lost revenue, agency officials said in a prepared statement.
