WMATA sets daily ridership records three times in one week

Within seven days, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recorded three ridership totals that rank in the authority's top 17 highest-ever ridership days.

On June 5, WMATA recorded 699,533 passengers, followed by 701,664 passengers on June 10 and 697,965 on June 11. On average, 650,000 to 670,000 passengers ride WMATA daily.

Because there were no events in the Washington, D.C., area that impacted ridership totals, authority officials attribute the high ridership to good weather following several weeks of unseasonably rainy and cool weather, according to a prepared statement.
