Yesterday, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) made the agency’s new Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) Manual the agency’s primary guide for safe operations along the tracks.
The manual is a guide to practices, procedures and equipment designed to promote a safe and efficient work environment, WMATA officials said in a prepared statement.
Topics covered in the manual include work limits, work zone conduct, challenges to protective measures, watchman and lookout procedures, hot spots, no clearance zones, third rail power, hand signals, train detection and employee training.
Employees will begin training on the manual in fall.
