The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will soon launch MetroMeter, a new tool designed to help riders track trains and obtain transit-rail schedules.

To be available late this week, MetroMeter will offer access to real-time data on headway and schedule adherence, the number of trains in service and other information.

The application is similar to MetroHero, a third-party app launched in 2015 that will no longer be updated as of July 1, WMATA officials said in a press release.

"MetroHero was popular with customers for good reason, and [we are] excited to provide our customers with a similar tool to track our performance in real time and bring more transparency to our operations," said WMATA General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke.

The transit agency is running more trains now than at any other point in its history, WMATA officials said. There are 58% more trains in service on weekdays compared to July 2022 and 73% more train trips, they added.
