Capital Metro board member Beverly Silas has been named the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Heart of Texas Chapter’s “Woman of the Year.”

An international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation, WTS recognized Silas for her “outstanding achievements, leadership and contributions to the field of transportation,” said Capital Metro officials in a prepared statement.

“Beverly Silas has played a prominent role in the major progress Capital Metro has made since the new board of directors started in 2010,” said Linda Watson, Capital Metro president and chief executive officer. “She is truly committed to improving transportation in central Texas.”

Silas, who received the WTS award earlier this month, has served on Capital Metro’s board since January 2010. She also serves on the American Public Transportation Association’s board.

Silas is president and chief executive officer of Beverly Silas & Associates, a privately owned, public involvement/public affairs consulting firm in Austin, Texas.
