The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) and California Department of Transportation recently marked the start of construction on the final segment of the Highway 4 Corridor projects, which includes construction of eBART station facilities in Antioch, Calif.

The event is an important step in the $1.3 billion effort to improve transportation in eastern Contra Costa County between Pittsburg and Brentwood, officials from the three agencies said in a joint statement.

"For many years, residents of East County, one of the fastest growing areas of the Bay area, have been paying to support BART while dealing with some of the worst traffic in the area," said BART Director Joel Keller. "The eBart extension addresses this need."

The projects calls for expanding Highway 4 from four to eight lanes between Loveridge Road and State Route 160, and adding a BART extension from Pittsburg to Antioch.
