The Las Vegas Railway Express Inc., which has proposed a luxury passenger-rail service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, announced earlier this week that it reached an agreement with the city of Fullerton, Calif., to extend their memorandum of understanding through April 11, 2014.

The purpose of the memorandum, which expired Oct. 11, is to outline the city and railway's intent to explore potential operating agreements for the proposed X Train service.

"We feel this project will be equally beneficial to Las Vegas Railway Express and the city of Fullerton because of the dollars spent by our passengers for goods, services and parking while they are in Fullerton, and will help boost the tax base of the city," said Dianne David Barron, the railway's real estate director, in a press release.

The company is in the process of designing the expedited service from the L.A. basin to Las Vegas and on other selected passenger-rail routes across the United States.
