Caltrain completes Palo Alto station improvements

advertisement

On Monday, Caltrain will open the northern end of the new boarding platforms and a new pedestrian underpass at Palo Alto Station, officially marking the completion of a $15 million station upgrade project.

The pedestrian underpass replaces a grade crossing and the new, longer platforms replace older, uneven ones. Caltrain also added open-front shelters to provide better access for wheelchairs and mobility devices, we well as new ticket vending machines, visual message signs and a public-address system.

The renovations are part of a larger program aimed at improving both of Caltrain’s Palo Alto, Calif., stations. In January, the agency will complete improvements at California Avenue Station, such as replacing the narrow center-boarding platform with two outside boarding platforms, to enable two trains to pass through the station at the same time. The project also calls for building a pedestrian underpass and center track fencing.
