When you have the pleasure of working closely with someone for almost 14 years, you develop a rhythm. Coordination. A second sense of knowing what the other is thinking. Those of you who have experienced this know exactly what I am talking about. Along with that close working relationship, I have been extra lucky because over those 14 years, I have gained one of my best friends. But after nearly 14 years with Progressive Railroading as our eastern sales manager, Ray Kosakowski is pulling the pin and retiring. We will truly miss him.
Ray had an outstanding career with the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad, Shawmut Companies, Miner Enterprises Inc., Itel Rail Corp., Kasgro Rail Corp. and then Progressive Railroading.
He is a true professional with a calm, steady, reassuring way about him. His knowledge of the railroad industry has been a real asset. Our customers appreciated his input and guidance when developing their advertising programs.
I can tell you many stories about Ray — from Monterrey, Mexico, to Jacksonville, Fla., to 14 years of industry trade shows. Who knows, I might even publish a book about all of our adventures someday. But what I will remember most is his old-school work ethic, and how he truly cared about his job and the magazine. "Whatever it takes to get the job done correctly," he would say, and if that meant working extra-long days or traveling on a weekend, Ray did it. He is and always will be a very important part of the Progressive Railroading team.
It is now time for him to relax with his wife, Dot; play a little golf; and enjoy the families of their three daughters — Janet, Valerie and Jenny — which include four grand kids. I look forward to seeing him on the golf course and maybe I will get him out fishing a time or two. Congratulations Ray! You deserve the best.
On May 1, Bridget Moyer will be taking over Ray's sales territory. Bridget comes to us from Vossloh North America, where she was marketing communications manager. She has a great understanding of the rail market and how to successfully market products and services in our industry.
In the meantime, Bridget will be traveling with Ray and me to meet as many of you as possible. We look forward to seeing you soon.
