Solutions Manager, Supply Chain Solutions CN
Education: University of Memphis, bachelor's in education; graduate degree in organizational management and leadership
Career highlights: In 2008, Coleman joined CN Worldwide, now a division of the CN-branded CN Supply Chain Solutions. She's now responsible for supply chain solution development across multiple industries. She began her logistics career in 1997 with United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) in customer support; then moved to UPS business development as a sales resource and mid-level manager. She served three years with UPS Capital as regional business development manager.
Why rail? Coleman was recruited by a headhunter working on behalf of CN, which was looking to recruit logistics professionals from outside the railroad industry.
Making a difference in rail transportation: "There is a great need for diversity in rail — not just at the surface level, where people talk about ethnicity or gender — but on a deeper level, which is attracting people that have fundamentally different things to offer. An area of diversity I represent for CN is my background in non-rail transportation services."
Active in: Memphis World Trade Club, past president; Society of Female Transportation Professionals; Memphis Regional Chamber Advisory Board; Memphis Area Transit Authority
Her philosophy: "First, I don't apologize for being a woman in an industry that is still very much dominated by guys. I am who I am, and I have unique things to offer, which [CN] values. Second, I believe in the value of good old-fashioned hard work. But I also think you need to have balance in your life."
Interesting fact: She graduated from high school at age 16 and from college at age 20.
Nominator's observation: "Roquita is a dynamic and progressive professional who has been at the forefront of leading, developing and managing solutions to generate top-line revenue for both rail and non-rail business units. ... Her incomparable achievements have put her in an elite class of business leaders." — Clifford Stockton, Greater Memphis Chamber
