How did you get into the rail industry? After working in the technology sector for several years, specifically within the banking and financial services industry, I wanted to transition into an industry with a greater purpose. When an opportunity to work in rail transportation presented itself, I didn't hesitate to jump on board. It's been an incredible journey ever since, and I feel privileged to be a part of an industry that plays such a critical role in the economy.

What is the best career advice you’ve received so far? One of the most impactful pieces of career advice I've received is to surround myself with individuals who are at the top of their game. As the saying goes, “If you want to be a 10, surround yourself with 11's, 12's and 13's.” This advice has helped me understand the importance of seeking out mentors, collaborators and team members who are not only knowledgeable and experienced, but also passionate about what they do.

What advice would you give to a new railroader? Become a knowledge sponge. Soak up all the information you can by asking thoughtful questions and seeking out learning opportunities. By being curious and inquisitive, you show a strong desire to grow and improve.

What was your first job? My first job was in the field of intellectual property where I worked on drafting patents for innovators, creating infringement claim charts and identifying potential licensing and acquisition targets for top business software firms. It was a fascinating introduction to the world of intellectual property and a great opportunity to work with highly innovative companies.

Share a fun fact about yourself I recently discovered my green thumb and have been nurturing my own herb garden. It's been a fulfilling journey to grow, harvest and incorporate fresh herbs into my cooking.

If you could have dinner with anyone alive in the world, who would it be and why? I am genuinely inspired by Barack Obama’s exceptional leadership qualities and unparalleled oratory skills. The way he can inspire and connect with people through his speeches is truly remarkable. It is precisely this captivating skill of his that makes me eagerly desire a chance to sit down for dinner with him and engage in a meaningful conversation.

Who has had the biggest influence on your career and why? When reflecting on my career journey, it's difficult to pinpoint just one person who has had the biggest influence. Instead, I attribute my professional growth to the cumulative impact of numerous people. I have been fortunate to encounter supportive mentors, inspirational leaders and a network of colleagues who have played pivotal roles. Their guidance, encouragement and unwavering support have significantly shaped my career.

Describe a major obstacle in your career and how you surmounted it. One of the significant obstacles I encountered in my career was the challenge of presenting my own point of view and ideas while working alongside seasoned experts with decades of experience. It can be intimidating to voice your thoughts in such an environment. However, I approached this obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow. I actively seek out every opportunity to immerse myself in the business, learning from the expertise and experience of my colleagues.
