Charles Stark will succeed SYSTRA USA Inc. and SYSTRA Consulting Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Albrecht Engel, who is retiring, SYSTRA announced yesterday.

Stark will take the reins from Engel, who founded LS Transit Systems Inc. (later renamed “SYSTRA Consulting”), in January.

Engel officially will retire in March 2006. Until then, he’ll be available to advise SYSTRA S.A. Managing Director Philippe Citroen to “facilitate an orderly transition and participate in some international initiatives,” according to a prepared statement.

“Al Engel has been a driving force in the company’s growth and success in rail and public transit consulting and transportation engineering,” Citroen said. “Through his expertise, hard work and dedication, Al has built a large and talented staff of engineers, software designers, and other professionals who serve the transportation industry throughout North America.”

Added Engel: “I have devoted 20 years to SYSYTRA and 27 years to the architectural and engineering industry in the practice of professional engineering. … While most of my career has been focused on transportation infrastructure engineering, I would like to pursue other interests and business ventures. Now is the best time to follow those inclinations.”
