New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recently named 25-year Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) veteran Lewis Schiliro to the new position of director of inter-agency preparedness.

He will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive prevention policies and coordinated emergency response plans among all MTA agencies, including New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road.

Schiliro will develop ongoing risk assessments, prioritize funding requests, work with MTA security to review and analyze all emergency response plans, and supervise emergency response training for MTA employees.

“[Schiliro’s] FBI training and anti-terrorism expertise will guide us as we continue to build on our extensive efforts since Sept. 11, 2001,” said MTA Chairman Peter Kalikow in a prepared statement. “He will lead this agency in developing and implementing increasingly sophisticated security policies that reflect and respond to new and changing threats.”
