The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority recently named Donald Smith chief operating officer and William Lopez, chief administrative officer.

Smith will succeed Matthew Tucker, who recently accepted a position as director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. For the past 25 years, Smith has served in various Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority positions, including deputy superintendent of rail lines and chief of light-rail operations. He also spent time with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and was a private sector consultant.

Lopez has held several managerial positions with the city of San Diego, including deputy director of the wastewater treatment and water reclamation plants, and director of risk management for the city’s public liability, workers’ compensation, employee benefits and labor relations programs.
