Balfour Beatty Rail Inc. recently appointed Paul Scanlon vice president of engineering and Tom Tanke, vice president of transit east.

With more than 27 years’ experience in railroad and transit train-control system design, project management and construction, Scanlon most recently served as rail systems manager for New Jersey Transit’s Hudson-Bergen light-rail line. He will be responsible for expanding Balfour Beatty’s engineering department, and developing the firm’s signal design business.

Tanke will be responsible for major transit projects in the eastern United States. With more than 30 years’ experience in U.S. and international transit system design and construction, he has served in senior-level executive positions at the federal and state level, and for various design and engineering firms.
