• Railinc Corp. recently launched the Umler Equipment Index, a new quarterly analysis of the total make-up of the North American rail equipment fleet. The index will provide total rail equipment fleet size and composition of the fleet by segments and equipment type, including cars, locomotives and end-of-train devices.

• Miner Enterprises named Bob Pokorski director of engineering. With 14 years' engineering experience, he most recently served as vice president of equipment for TTX Co.

• Southern Illinois Railcar (SIRC) named Perry Fix chief mechanical officer. Most recently director of product development and customer service, new car manufacturing for American Rail Industries, he has 28 years' experience in the rail industry. He joins SIRC's recently appointed Chief Operating Officer Keith Bouquet.

• RailComm named Ed Reardon technical sales engineer. He most recently served Buckingham Branch Railroad as manager of rail traffic control and has more than 20 years of rail industry experience.  

• Bombardier Inc. announced that board member Jane Garvey is stepping down. She has accepted a position to serve on President-Elect Barack Obama's transition team. Bombardier will launch a search for her replacement.

• Tideworks Technology® Inc. recently introduced "Tractor Pooling" as a new feature on its Tideworks' Traffic Control™ container dispatch system. It enables terminal operators to pool tractors among numerous cranes and vessels, and automatically select the most appropriate, available tractor to perform a load discharge move against a vessel.
