Toronto council dissolves transit board, appoints new one

On Monday, the Toronto City Council dissolved the existing Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) nine-member board, then appointed a new board comprising seven city councilors and four private citizens.
The decision was the result of a “city staff report dealing with the governance of the TTC,” commission officials said in a prepared statement. The former board consisted entirely of city councilors.
The council also elected Councilor Karen Stintz as the TTC’s new chair, a position she held on the former board. Private citizen members of the TTC will be appointed later this year, commission officials said.
