Norfolk Southern Corp. recently named Cindy Earhart vice president of human resources to succeed Thomas Mullenix Jr., who will retire March 1. The railroad also appointed Thomas Werner VP of information technology to succeed Earhart.

Mullenix has served NS for 36 years in various high-ranking engineering, labor relations and human resources positions.

“Tom and his team deserve a great deal of credit for preparing Norfolk Southern to handle the unprecedented traffic levels we’ve seen in recent years,” said NS Executive VP of Administration John Rathbone in a prepared statement, citing Mullenix’s leadership in hiring, training, compensation, benefits and diversity initiatives.

Reporting to Rathbone, Earhart has served in various accounting and IT positions since joining NS in 1985 as supervisor of subsidiary accounting.

Reporting to EVP of Planning and Chief Information Officer Kathryn McQuade, Werner most recently served as assistant VP of technology. He joined NS in 1999 as director of information technology program management.
