Freddie Simpson recently was sworn in to serve another five-year term as an international vice president for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT).

Simpson, who first was elected as an at-large international VP in 2006, also is president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED), which affiliated with the Teamsters in 2005 and joined the Teamsters Rail Conference. Simpson has been involved with the BMWED — which represents more than 25,000 rail workers — since 1974.

He joins Teamsters General President James Hoffa, General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall, and other newly elected international VPs and trustees on the IBT’s General Executive Board. Hoffa became president in March 1999 and won re-election in 2001 and 2006.

Founded in 1903, the IBT represents 1.4 million workers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
