The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has named Mary Childress chief financial officer to succeed L. Samuel Kerns, who recently joined the American Forest and Paper Association. Childress has more than 25 years experience leading the financial and administrative functions of associations and non-profit organizations.
“Mary Childress brings a wealth of experience and expertise to APTA,” said APTA President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Melaniphy in a prepared statement. “Her strong financial know-how and her diverse association background will be invaluable for our association.” Before to joining APTA, Childress served as chief operating officer for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. She also has held senior-level finance positions at the American Wind Energy Association, Optical Society of America, National Association for Home Care, and Partnership for Democracy.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, Childress holds the designations of certified public accountant and certified association executive.
