Dallas attorney Scott Carlson has been named general counsel of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

A former member of DART’s board, Carlson succeeds Hyattye Simmons, who retired earlier this year.

Carlson joins the agency after previously serving law firm Cavazos, Hendricks, Poirot & Smitham as senior counsel.

Previously, Carlson oversaw regulatory issues at Nortel Networks and supported various business initiatives. He also has served as assistant city attorney for Dallas, and before starting his legal career, he was a civil engineer in the oil and gas industry.

Meanwhile, the Dallas City Council has appointed businessman James Adams to DART’s board. President of Innisfree Investments of Dallas, Adams also serves on the board of the Dallas Skillman Corridor Tax Increment Financing District, Texas Methodist Foundation and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.
