The National Alliance of Public Transportation Advocates (NAPTA) has appointed Marnie O'Brien Primmer chairman.

She has more than 14 years of experience in transportation infrastructure, planning and development and community outreach in southern California, NAPTA officials said in a prepared statement.

A longtime transportation advocate, O'Brien Primmer currently is executive director of Mobility 21, a five-county transportation coalition in southern California.

Coalition building at the grassroots level will be critical to ensure transportation needs are fully funded in the next cycle of federal legislation on transportation funding issues, O'Brien Primmer said.

"With increased investment, we can expand all of our transportation options and reduce the time we spend sitting in traffic or waiting for the next bus or train to arrive," she said.

American Public Transportation Association
(APTA) President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Melaniphy said he looks forward to working with O'Brien Primmer and NAPTA on future transportation legislation.

"APTA is proud to have a strong partnership with NAPTA,"  he said in a prepared statement. "We will work directly with NAPTA in support of increasing investment in public transportation."
