On Jan. 9, RailAmerica Inc. named Scott Linn senior vice president, North American Rail Group-Eastern Corridor to succeed Joe Conklin, who was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer in November 2003.

Linn will be responsible for overseeing 26 of RailAmerica's railroads, which operate 4,100 track miles in 15 states and three Canadian provinces, employ more than 900 people and move about 750,000 carloads annually.

A 21-year railroad industry veteran, Linn most recently served as vice president of engineering.

"[Linn's] familiarity with these railroads, the employees and the customers they serve make him an ideal leader for this position," said RailAmerica Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Marino in a prepared statement.

In October 2000, Linn joined RailAmerica after serving Burlington Northern Santa Fe and its predecessor railroads for 18 years in a variety of positions, including trainmaster, superintendent of maintenance-of-way scheduling, director of South American operations, and maintenance and division engineers.
