KCS promotes Mitchell to AVP; intermodal institute installs DeWitt as executive director

Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) has promoted M. Christopher Mitchell from director of locomotive utilization to assistant vice president-system mechanical. He will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dave Ebbrecht.

Mitchell has over 10 years of railroad experience, beginning as a craft employee in KCSR’s Shreveport, La., diesel shop. He previously was manager of locomotive utilization and mechanical assistance coordinator desks at KCSR's Network Operations Center.

Meanwhile, the Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver has named William DeWitt III executive director.

He has over 40 years of transportation experience, most recently as professor of transportation and logistics at the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine.

DeWitt has held progressively responsible positions at the University of Maryland, University of Tennessee and Burlington Northern Railroad (BN), including director of strategic planning, director of intermodal marketing, AVP of marketing resources, president of Winona Bridge Railway Co., VP of intermodal marketing and sales, and VP of forest products marketing and sales. He began his career in 1972 as a BN management trainee in St. Paul, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia.
