The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has hired Jeff Mann to serve as deputy secretary for transit, starting Oct. 22.

Mann will oversee the department's non-highway transportation divisions, including rail and public transportation, NCDOT officials said in a press release.

Currently, he is senior planning manager for transit and rail at engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff, where he has worked on rail studies and planning for Raleigh, N.C. Mann has more than 18 years of experience as a freight- and passenger-rail planner. He has played key roles in implementing rail and bus transit initiatives, and brings a wealth of knowledge in operations, budget development, performance measurement, program management and governmental relations, NCDOT officials said.

"Jeff's background and leadership will be an important part of NCDOT’s continued efforts to build and strengthen the multimodal transportation network for all citizens envisioned by Governor McCrory’s recently released 25-Year Vision for Transportation," said North Carolina Transportation Secretary Tony Tata.
