Tri-City Railroad Co. (TCRY) has named John Miller vice president and chief operating officer. He has more than 40 years of rail industry experience.

Miller most recently served Union Pacific Railroad as a manager of short line development. Prior to joining UP, he held various positions with the Milwaukee Road, Soo Line, Wisconsin Central and Southern Pacific railroads.

"John will bring great depth and knowledge of the rail industry, and help propel TCRY forward into the next phases of development and growth," TCRY officials said in a news item posted on the short line's website.

Established in 1999, TCRY operates and maintains a rail line owned by the Port of Benton, Wash., under a long-term lease agreement. The short line interchanges with UP.
