The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) yesterday named Frank DePaola interim general manager in the wake of GM Beverly Scott's resignation.DePaola previously served as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's (MassDOT) highway administrator since 2011. In 2014, he was named acting secretary of MassDOT. On March 4, DePaola will take over for Scott, who announced her resignation on Feb. 11. Following several days of service delays and breakdowns due to winter weather conditions in Boston, Scott also announced on Monday that the agency is considering reimbursing riders for recent service issues. The agency aims to reach a final decision at the MassDOT board meeting on March 11, according to a statement issued by Scott.Monday also marked the first time that all MBTA rail lines were running since Feb. 1, according to Boston's WBUR radio station. Scott attributed the delays to a combination of severe weather and aging infrastructure."These were absolutely unprecedented weather conditions," Scott told WBUR. "We’re seeing severe weather that is more frequent and more severe than it has been, and that is absolutely documented."
