New Jersey Transit's board yesterday named William Crosbie the agency's new executive director, effective April 25.

He'll take the place of Dennis Martin, who has held the position on an interim basis since Veronique Hakim left in December 2015 to become president of MTA New York City Transit.

Crosbie is former chief operating officer of Amtrak, where he served from 2003 until October 2010.

Most recently, he has been serving as president, chief executive officer and North American regional director for Systra USA, an international transportation engineering consulting firm. While there, he led day-to-day operations and strategic development, NJ Transit officials said in a press release.

Crosbie also has worked as vice president of railroad programs for Parsons Corp.

"Bill Crosbie brings a depth of background in operations, transportation, engineering, finance, and security to New Jersey Transit that is perfectly suited to address the needs facing the agency at this important time," said NJ Transit Chairman Richard Hammer.
