The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) has hired Demarcus Peters as director of diversity, the agency announced late last week.

In the newly created role, he'll oversee efforts to identify, expand and accelerate the use of diverse suppliers, including small disadvantaged business enterprises owned by minorities, women and veterans.

Peters previously served as a small business program analyst for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), where he increased the agency's dealings with diverse suppliers and fostered external community involvement.

Prior to his time at MARTA, he served as a program director with Enterprise Community Partners, where he assisted with contract and budget approval processes. He also provided technical assistance to small businesses and community-based organizations.
