Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Dan Grabauskas resigned last week.

The move will allow HART to move forward "to ultimate success with fresh leadership," Grabauskas said in a press release.

He has been CEO since April 2012. Under his leadership, the project "got off to a strong start" due to his energy and enthusiasm, said HART Chair Colleen Hanabusa.

HART is overseeing a project to build a 20-mile elevated rail system in Honolulu. The cost of the project has jumped from $5.2 billion in 2012 to $8.3 billion by recent estimates, according to Honolulu Civil Beat.

The news website also reported that Mike Formby was appointed interim leader of HART. A member of HART's board, Formby is the director of transportation for the city and county of Honolulu.
