The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has recognized Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas, President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Lambert as its outstanding public transportation manager of 2018.

Under his tenure, the Houston-area agency has been honored for "everything from financial transparency to emergency response efforts," agency officials said in a press release.

During last year's Hurricane Harvey, for example, Houston METRO helped move more than 15,000 people to shelters with the help of Lambert's emergency and incident management skills. Lambert became METRO's leader in 2014, and his contract was extended in November 2017.

"Tom Lambert is a proactive executive leader whose leadership skills have made a significant difference for METRO for nearly 40 years," said APTA President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Skoutelas.

Lambert will accept the award in September at APTA's annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
